Who We Are
Old Windsor Pre-School was established in 1964 as a non-profit making charity, and is run by a Management Committee whose members are the charity trustees of the Pre-School. Michael Bourne is the current Chairman. Parents run the Management and Fundraising Committees, which both work closely with staff to ensure the smooth running of our Pre-School.
The Pre-School operates from the Memorial Hall in the village and is open to boys and girls between the ages of 2 years 10 months and 5 years old. We are registered to take a maximum of 30 pupils per session, and have an enviable adult to child ratio of 1:6.
We have a team of 9 staff members who all work directly with the children and all hold early years qualifications, the majority of which are to NVQ level 3 or hold the Diploma in Pre-School Practice (DPP).
“Children are cared for by a very well qualified staff team. Ratios are maintained and exceeded on most occasions.” Ofsted 2008
Old Windsor Pre-School is a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance, and receives support from the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.
We are also supported by the local community in various different ways.
What We Offer
The Foundation Stage curriculum sets out the early learning goals for children from 3-5 years old. We carefully structure our curriculum to base each term’s teaching and learning schemes around these guidelines.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Problem solving, Reasoning & Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
To help the children bring exercise into their lifestyles we are now incorporating P.E. lessons into our curriculum. The children are encouraged to change into their P.E. kits with the minimum of adult assistance, leaving their clothes ready to put back on afterwards. They learn the importance of staying healthy, and warming up and cooling down before and after exercise. Sessions include fun exercises, balancing, running on the spot, jumping, stretching etc., learning how their bodies change during exercise. These P.E. lessons take place during a Friday session.
The Pre-school offers a lunch club on a Tuesday from 12 noon – 1pm at a cost of £2.00 per child. The children bring along a packed lunch from home and join their friends in this social activity, sitting and eating appropriately all together. Initially the places are offered to the oldest children so that they get used to having this type of facility before they move on to school.
